LEADING PUNJAB TOWARD A CLEANER, GREENER, AND MORE RESILIENT FUTURE
Pakistan contributes less than 1% to global emissions but remains among the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change.
■ In 2022, Punjab suffered a devastating flood.
■ 27 districts affected
■ 4.8 million people impacted
■ 2.6 million people and 2.1 million animals safely evacuated
■ 3.3 million acres flooded, including 2.4 million acres of crops
Despite the devastation, early warnings and Punjab’s rapid response system saved hundreds of thousands of lives. This case study of one of South Asia’s fastest damage assessments enabled agile and transparent humanitarian aid.
Punjab learned that resilience is built before the storm and that recovery must be smarter, more sustainable, and fairer.
At COP30, Punjab took center stage—not just as a province of Pakistan, but as a symbol of climate resilience, innovation, and human will.

The World Bank’s Global Director for Climate Change praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif as a “driving force” on climate issues and highlighted her government’s unwavering commitment to policies on sustainability, clean energy, and biodiversity recovery.
“The climate crisis will not wait, and neither will we,” declared CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
